Current Preventative Care Recommendations in Ontario
Immunizations: Stay up to date with immunizations as per the Ontario Immunization Schedule.
Healthy Lifestyle: Maintain a healthy lifestyle with regular physical activity, a balanced diet, limited alcohol consumption, and avoiding tobacco use.
Screening for Chronic Diseases: Regularly screen for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and osteoporosis as recommended by your physician.
Breast Cancer Screening: Women aged 40-74 should get a mammogram every 2 years. Women aged 30-69 who are at high risk may be eligible for screening with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Cervical Cancer Screening: Women aged 25-69 should have a Pap test every 3 years. HPV testing may also be recommended.
Colorectal Cancer Screening: Individuals aged 50-74 with average risk should complete a fecal immunochemical test (FIT) every 2 years or a colonoscopy every 10 years.
Other recommendations may be advised by your physician based on your personal and family medical history. Please see the Choosing Wisely website for why annual check-ups are no longer recommended. Instead, book when you have an active medical concerns or when you are due for follow-up of a chronic medical condition as advised by your doctor.
